We are very proud to be celebrating 50 years of organized lacrosse in Southern California at the inaugural 2009 California Lacrosse Convention on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at California State University, Fullerton, 8am sharp to 5:30pm. Legendary Head Coach, Bill Tierney*of the Denver Pioneers will kick off a fantastic day along with an excellent lineup of great presentations, including “hands-on” demonstrations that will send you home inspired and well-prepared for the 2010 season. This is the premiere educational and networking opportunity for officials, coaches, players and fans, to take advantage of the exceptional knowledge of recognized leaders in lacrosse not only in California, but from around the country.
You will enjoy learning about exciting new drills, useful defensive strategies, interesting goaltending techniques, strengthen your skills as an official, view an impelling new documentary film about the Native American origins of the sport, see innovative products and services by walking through our” vendor village” and many other excellent opportunities for all levels of experience with boys and girls lacrosse.
Talented representatives, like Matt Striebel, one of 40 members selected to be on the USA Team in 2010, will share his wisdom as an elite player and current coach. All presentations will include methods on how to shape youth players into leaders that contribute to our community both on and off the field by developing strong values for commitment, excellence, respect, determination, confidence, teamwork and courage. We not only want to teach the skills of how to successfully play and win the game, but to also offer the chance of building exceptional character in players as they grow into young adults; “a bright path.” The theme of the convention is WA-THO-HUK which in fact means; “Bright Path” in the Native American Language.
Our lead sponsor, The LA84 Foundation, whose mission is to support youth sports in Southern California, and increase public understanding of the significance of sport, is no stranger to this particular sport. Since 2006, in coordination with the efforts of US Lacrosse, the National Governing Body of the Sport, they have generously sponsored a total of 16 lacrosse clinics; 10 for coaches and 6 for officials. These clinics represent a spectacular contribution to the development of the game of lacrosse by training 904 coaches, and 182 officials throughout Southern California including Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and San Bernardino Countries.
The fee to attend is $26.00, which includes lunch and parking. Discounted hotel rates are available at our host hotel, The Fullerton Marriott, located on the CSUF campus, which is within easy walking distance to all the convention facilities. Don’t miss your chance to learn more about the fastest growing sport in the nation!
