Jordan Kligerman
Director / Producer / Editor
SACRED SPORT, is Jordan’s third directing effort in documentaries and brings together his passions of lacrosse and film making. Jordan received a BA degree in English from the University of Delaware and an MFA degree in Media Arts in 2006 from the City College of New York.
Why did you produce SACRED SPORT?
At the time I began developing the film, I was really hungry to make a movie about a subject that touched me deeply. Lacrosse for me has always been more than a sport. I’ve stuck with the sport in times when all I got back were injuries and disappointment and the sport has always been there for me to bring me back to my center and to help me meet people all over the world. I knew I was not the only one who felt this way about lacrosse, so I began to try to figure out why this was so. My original plan was to make a sweeping epic, but time and budget (the two movie making variables) made that idea tough to realize. When I shifted gears and decided to produce a short, I was looking for an aspect of the game that had complexity, but also a connection to what we play today. When we decided to film at the 1998 World Games, specifically the Iroquois National Team, the focus of the film was really decided for me. The Native American origins of the game mixed with the importance the sport holds today on so many Native Nations was the story to tell. In addition, traveling and living in many parts of the US, I found that part of lacrosse, the core of lacrosse, was not being taught or coached to young players. I feel the origins, but also the current connection to Native Americans is paramount in the learning process of any youth player.
